Synopsis:

Eron DeMarchelle isn't supposed to feel this connection. He is a Sandman, a supernatural being whose purpose is to seduce his human charges to sleep. Though he can communicate with his charges in their dreams, he isn't encouraged to do so. After all, becoming too involved in one human's life could prevent him from helping others get their needed rest.

But he can't deny that he feels something for Julia, a lonely girl with fiery red hair and sad dreams. Just weeks ago, her boyfriend died in a car accident, and Eron can tell that she feels more alone than ever. Eron was human once too, many years ago, and he remembers how it felt to lose the one he loved. In the past, Eron has broken rules to protect Julia, but now, when she seems to need him more than ever, he can't reach her. Eron's time as a Sandman is coming to a close, and his replacement doesn't seem to care about his charges. Worse, Julia is facing dangers she doesn't recognize, and Eron, as he transitions back to being human, may be the only one who can save her. . . .

Even once they've become human again, Sandmen are forbidden to communicate with their charges. But Eron knows he won't be able to forget Julia. Will he risk everything for a chance to be with the girl he loves?

My rating: ★★★★☆

Eron is a Sandman. Yep, that's right. You know, those supernatural beings who put people to sleep? Pretty cool if you ask me. He was no older than 18 when he died in an accident at the mill where he worked. That was 100 years ago. And now after completing his 100 years as a Sandman, he will have the chance to be human again and finish his "unfinished business." But he has no idea what this "business" is, and his full human transformation is only a few days away. That is, until he starts training his replacement, Griffin, who also happens to be the deceased boyfriend of one of Eron's charges (Julia).

Julia's boyfriend Griffin died in a car accident, and she is more alone than ever. She was a loner to start with. And their relationship wasn't the most romantic. But now she has no one. Everyone around her just seems to be walking on eggshells for her sake.

And now Julia (even though she doesn't know it) is in danger. Its up to Eron to protect her; because that's what they do. Not only do Sandmen put their charges to sleep, but they also protect them from danger.

But Griffin gives Eron a hard time. He thinks he owns Julia! Can you believe that? The jerk -_- He's dead and he wont let go of Julia. And to top it all off, Eron might be developing deeper feeling for Julia as he transitions from Sandman to human. And lets just say Griffin isn't the best student to Eron's teachings.

To tell the truth, this book didn't really grab my attention right away. And I like getting absorbed into a book from the beginning. But oh well, it was a very good book over all :)

Although, Julia and Griffin's relationship didn't really make much sense to me. I mean, I get why Julia would go out with him: he's the only one who didn't walk on eggshells around her, and that what she's wanted all along. But seriously, Julia could've done sooo much better! I didn't like Griffin one bit. Especially when Eron was trying to help him and Griffin would just blow him off. Jerk -_-

Eron on the other hand, I completely loved! He's not possessive over his charges, and he genuinely cares and wants to protect Julia. Plus, he made me laugh a lot! With all the new fashion trends and technological advances, well, he just couldn't blend into society right away. It was pretty funny.

It was a great read with a nice touch of suspense at the end.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a comment! :)

  3. I haven't read any books by this author before. I love the idea of this book--a sandman is unique to feature as a main character. Based on your review, this book does sound interesting and even though it starts slow, if I stick with it, it gets better.
