Synopsis:

In volume 5 of Olympians, author/artist George O'Connor turns the spotlight on that most mysterious and misunderstood of the Greek gods, Poseidon: Earth Shaker. Thrill to such famous stories as Theseus and the Minotaur, Odysseus and Polyphemos, and the founding of Athens—and learn how the tempestuous Poseidon became the King of the Seas.

My rating: ★★★★★

Heh, As I was reading this, I was also half-watching the Percy Jackson movie...can you say mythology junkie? LOL.

I loved this book! It was awesome! It talked a little bit about Odysseus and his encounter with Polyphemus...gods, I love that story! It just makes me laugh with the whole "no-man" trick. Ha!

It also talked about Theseus and King Minos and The Minotaur (whose birth name I did not know was Asterion!) How the Minotaur was imprisoned in the Labyrinth Daedalus built, and how Ariadne gave Theseus a ball of thread so he wouldn't get lost in the maze. I thought Theseus was a big jerk-face for later ditching Ariadne on an island (she did help him after all). But what this book didn't mention was the the wine god Dionysus found her and married her, and she later became a goddess. So I guess everything turned out pretty well for her.

Another thing the book mentioned was Athena and Poseidon's contest over being the patron god of Athens. Loved when Athena called Poseidon a sore loser, ha!

Did you know that Hera, Athena, and Poseidon's attempted to overthrow Zeus as ruler?? Yeah, they did. But they didn't succeed.

And lastly, as Poseidon and his brothers and sisters were born, Kronos would devour each and every one of them...except for the youngest: Zeus. Some myths say that Zeus was not the only one who was not swallowed by his father. Some say that Poseidon was saved too. I really liked how the author incorporated that myth in here so nicely.

I still have not read the first 3 books of the series, and I really, really want to! I seriously need to get my hand on those graphic novels. I am seriously loving this series...I do love my mythology ;) So if you like mythology as much as I do, I seriously recommend this series! Or even if you just want to do a little research and learn about the gods, these graphic novels are pretty helpful without being boring!

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think about it? If not, what do you think? Does it sound like something you might want to read? Leave me a comment! :)
